About Two Faces: Gordon and Nina, born in 1938, grew up in the quiet towns of Atwater and Merced, California. Their friendship, portrayed in the book, reflects real-life experiences during WW2 as Gordon and his family are interned in a camp for Japanese Americans during the war while Nina's father joins the US army. The book explores themes of friendship, racial prejudice, and the value of family.
