Roger Bares
Roger Bares was an amateur World War II historian with a special interest in the Pacific Theater. He was born on Hitler’s 50th birthday and was educated in Chicago area schools and universities. Bares served in the United States Marine Corps and was an insurance broker, husband, father, admirer of veterans, volunteer football and baseball coach, traveler and wine connoisseur. He invented and enjoyed war games when they were played on sheets of hexagonal paper and he built and flew models of military aircraft. One gas-powered DC-3 model of balsa wood and tissue paper almost burned down a barn on his aunt's farm.
