Father Bert was the first quadriplegic to be ordained a Catholic priest. When he died, Dora Korson inherited his notes. As she read through them, she found out more about this man who was so determined to be a priest, he put all his trust in God's hands.

"I want everyone to know what a remarkable man he was," Korson said. Fr. Albert J. Couturier is co-author with Korson.

The story is "a mixture of sorrow and happiness associated with my birth," Fr. Bert writes. "I must be willing and feel rewarded as an adjustment to a new way of life. My rewards are peace of mind, courage, strength and physical abilities. Can I make the adjustments to a life of a paralytic from the active life I had been living? This story will concern itself with the workings of my mind on several remarks. From memories of my past active life comes my self-pity; from the desire to live and make the best of my situation, come strength and the courage to adjust."
