John Wemlinger
John Wemlinger is a retired U.S. Army colonel who served twenty-seven years on active duty. A veteran of the Vietnam War where he flew helicopters, he has commanded at the company-, battalion-, and brigade-levels. He spent nearly half of his time in the service stationed overseas where his experiences with other countries and cultures shaped his world view.
He published his first novel, Winter’s Bloom, in 2016, writing about what he knows best, our country’s military and its culture. Since then he has authored five other books, all of which have received various prestigious independent writing awards. The Cut, his fifth novel, was designated A Michigan Notable Book, by the State Library of Michigan. He says the secret to his success is picking a difficult subject impacting our military/veteran community and spinning a compelling story around it. “For those who are serving or have served, I want to be a mirror reflecting the honor of their service. For those who know little of our military and its challenges, I want to be a window through which civilians may look and learn.”
His seventh novel, as yet untitled, will be published by Mission Point Press in the late spring/early summer of 2026.
