A Christmas Tale
Christmas comes early for young readers in Michigan author’s newest children’s book
TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN—With three decades of writing, nine works of kids’ literature, and a brood of grandchildren under her belt, Michigan author, Norma Lewis, is no stranger to the art of letting kids be kids. In her tenth children’s book, Blankets are for Babies: A Christmas Tale—the final installment of her thirty-year writing career—one child’s holiday discovery of joy and generosity proves to be the best gift of all.

“It’s really just that wholesome story of a kid getting picked on, but not letting it get them down,” said Lewis’s granddaughter, Shelby Ayers—but with an extra sprinkle of holiday magic!
In it, young readers meet Kate, whose favorite blanket is so special to her that she insists on taking it to Christmas Eve church service—even as she endures teasing reminders that “blankets are for babies.” Kate’s neighbors, her friends, and even her sister all tell her that she doesn’t need a child’s blanket—and she almost believed them—until she finds the perfect place for it: in the manger of the Nativity Scene. Blankets are for babies, after all—especially if that baby is Jesus!
Valuable Lessons
Accompanied by the lively and colorful illustrations of Sarah Kaake, this catchy kid’s read is bursting with Lewis’s signature warmth and cheeky humor while capturing the true meaning of Christmas with a heartening message for young readers.
“[Norma] has the Christmas season in her heart,” Ayers said. “[It’s all about] being thankful for your family and the people you surround yourself with.”
Advance Praise
Author Janet Vormittag writes:
"Norma Lewis never disappoints—her latest children’s book, Blankets Are for Babies: A Christmas Tale, will captivate children, parents, and grandparents. Both the story and illustrations are a delight and the story will become another holiday tradition—brought out to read every Christmas.”
